On the land which used to be once filled with lush green paddy fields, today, stands the oldest college in Bhutan.

 Located in Kanglung in the district of Trashigang in the eastern Bhutan, Sherubtse is one the largest colleges in the Royal University of Bhutan.

The name sherubtse literally translates to “The Peak of Learning.” For many decades, Sherubtse College has been home to many of the eminent figures in our country. It has nurtured notable alumni such as Lyonpo Damchoe Dorji (foreign minister), Lyonpo Sonam Kinga (speaker of national council), Thakur.S.Powdrel (former communication minister) and many more.

Enveloped by the basic infrastructure, the sight of sprawling lush golden-green hedges, varieties of beautiful flowers and its environment providing a rural flavor, the college is an ideal place for learning.

Founded in 1966 by a group of Jesuits under the leadership of father William Mackey, Sherubtse College is the first accredited college in Bhutan. The college was established as a public school in 1968and became the junior college in 1976. It became a constituent college of the royal university of Bhutan in 2003.

Sherubtse College is a multidisciplinary institution and offers a wide range of undergraduate programmes in the field of arts, humanities, social science, physical and biological sciences. The programmes are taught by qualified and committed local and international faculties.

The college has an active research culture which offers a unique learning opportunity for local as well as international faculties and students. It also continually promotes research and innovation through the college annual research fund.
